Dr. Victor A. Maquera, MD 

Dr. Maquera is Board Certified Neurologist who practices the full scope of adult general neurology and selected conditions of pediatric and child neurology. He attended Medical School at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, receiving his MD degree in 1982. He received training as a Family Practice Resident at Resurrection Hospital, Chicago, Illinois. He obtained his General Neurology Residency and subspecialty training in EEG, EMG, Sleep Disorders at the National Naval Medical Center "Bethesda" and Children's Hospital Washington DC.

 

He obtained Undersea Medicine Training while on active duty in the US Navy, with special expertise in hyperbaric, diving and submarines. He has treated over 350 cases of Diving and Decompression Sickness. He was selected to teach Diving Medicine at the US Navy Dive School at Panama City, Florida, rewriting the entire curriculum for Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine. He served as the Medical Officer for the USS Alabama SSBN 731 (Gold) and USS Ohio SSBN 726 (Blue) submarines, making 3 strategic deterrant patrols. While stationed in Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines, served as the Diving Medical Officer for Naval Special Warfare Unit ONE, Explosive Ordnance Detachment Mobile Unit FIVE, 3rd Marine Reconaissence Battalion, participating in various exercises throughout the Pacific and Indian Ocean from Korea to the Seychelles, Singapore and Guam. As the Medical Officer for Submarine Group SEVEN, participated in various exercises with most of the attack submarines assigned to SubGroup SEVEN. In Subic Bay served with the Ship's Repair Facility Dive Locker, treating over 350 cases of Diving and Decompression Sickness including several Treatment Table 7s. As the Diving Medical Officer for CTF 73 participated in various exercises including salvage of aircraft and ships with most of the Salvage ships and units assigned to the US Navy Seventh Fleet from Korea to Singapore and Guam.

 

After leaving the US Navy in 1998, Dr. Maquera has been practicing neurology for over 20 years in Jacksonville and Orange Park, Florida. Most recently associating with NeuroTek, since 2013. Dr. Maquera is certified by the State of Florida to evaluate and prescribe medical marijuana for approved conditions identified by the State of Florida (MS, seizures, parkinson's disease, chronic pain, and ALS). His current interests and expertise include multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune conditions of the nervous system such as CIDP, stiff-man syndrome, myasthenia gravis and autoimmune muscle disorders. He provides treatment for various seizure disorders including epilepsy, bringing over 20 years of experience with the Vagal Nerve Stimulator (VNS). He enjoys treating parkinson's disease, essential & familial tremors including the use and monitoring of the Deep Brain Stimulator (DBS) for the treatment of these conditions. He has years of experience treating stroke, and actually established the first protocols for t-PA ("Clot Buster") in 1995 for Orange Park Medical Center, Memorial Hospital, St. Vincent's Medical Center, and Baptist Hospital. He has performed Botox injections since 1992 for the treatment of muscle spasm and chronic headache. Dr. Maquera is passionate about the practice of Medicine and Neurology. This is reflected by many patients having followed Dr. Maquera to our current practice based on his willingness and devotion to each one of his patients.

Amanda Hall, DNP, APRN,
FNP-C

Amanda Hall, DNP, is a Nurse Practitioner specializing in neurologic care who enjoys diagnosing and treating neurological conditions, while placing great emphasis on the provider-patient relationship. She delivers evidence-based care with a personal, individualized approach to each patient. She has realized throughout her inpatient and outpatient experience that sometimes people with chronic neurological conditions aren’t able to perceive the amount of impact the illness has on their quality of life. Dr. Hall assesses the needs of each individual patient to empower them with a goal to live their lives without barriers.

She earned her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Florida (UF) and obtained her Master of Science in Nursing degree at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She completed her undergraduate training at the University of North Florida (UNF), graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree from UNF, majoring in Biomedical Science and Chemistry, with a minor in Public Health. She began her research journey as a speaker at UNF regarding The Detection and Treatment of Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis Caused by Naegleria fowleri Exposure. She also conducted research on The Social Determinants of Health in Primary Care Patients at UAB and in the outpatient primary care setting. She most recently presented her research on The Implementation of an Electronic Intake Form And The Importance of Medication Reconciliation in Patients with Neurological Conditions. She continues this journey through her clinical practice every day by applying evidence-based medicine.

 

Dr. Hall holds special interest in patients with Migraine and other headache types but thoroughly enjoys educating patients and their family members about all neurological issues. She is trained to inject Botulinum toxin (e.g., BOTOX and XEOMIN) for use in chronic headaches and cervical dystonia. She is well-versed regarding the latest headache treatment options available. She is also trained to administer trigger point injections, along with performing nerve blocks, including the sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) block for migraine and facial pain. She persistently keeps up-to-date with research in order to integrate the most current recommendations into practice. She is a member of The American Academy of Neurology, The National Headache Foundation, The American Headache Society, The Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers, and The International Organization of Multiple Sclerosis Nurses. 

 

Dr. Hall lives in St. Augustine with her husband, their son, and three dogs. When she is not practicing neurology, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She is a lover of animals and the outdoors.
